Conor Coady of Wolverhampton Wanderers to start the Revolution at Newcastle

Conor Coady of Wolverhampton Wanderers to start the Revolution at Newcastle: Amanda Staveley, a 'big fan' of Wolves, has been identified as a key target for Newcastle. Newcastle United's new Saudi owners are looking for new players in January, with Conor Coady of Wolverhampton Wanderers and England garnering particular attention.

Conor Coady, the captain of Wolves and an England international, has been mentioned as a major target for Newcastle in the January transfer window. With the team facing relegation from the Premier League, the Toon are putting together a list of potential new signings.

Frank McParland, one of Amanda Staveley's valued pals who is likely to take a top post at St James' Park, likes Coady, 28. When the centre-back was just starting out in the game, McParland worked with him at Liverpool and assisted him on his way to the top.

Wolves would not want to sell their best defender, especially to a team attempting to catch up to them in the table. It would take a large sum of money - perhaps £20 million or more - to persuade them to trade with a competitor.

Following Newcastle's £300 million buyout by Saudi's Public Investment Fund, who are able to meet the value and give high wages to attract Coady, such money is no longer an issue.

In the short to medium term, he is the type of player the Magpies might construct a team around as they attempt to climb the Premier League standings. Coady would bring top-flight experience and leadership skills to the table, as well as his natural defensive talent.

Losing the England international would be a huge setback for Wolves, who would be forced to look for a replacement in January, which isn't easy.

Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski, whose contract expires in the summer, has also been linked with a move to Newcastle.

He, like Coady, played for McParland at both Brentford and Turf Moor.

Manager Steve Bruce was the first casualty and now we await the next decision from the toons' new owners.
