Trump raises concern over India and Pakistan standoff

Trump has raised concerns over India and Pakistan standoff, referring to the situation has dangerous

The President of the United States, Donald Trump has expressed distress at the "very dangerous situation" between India and Pakistan after a deadly attack against Indian forces that occurred in Kashmir.

"It's very dangerous situation between the two countries," Trump stated while speaking to reporters in the White House on Friday.

"Right now there is a lot of problems between India and Pakistan because of what happened," he said.

Tensions have gone up between the nuclear-capable rivals since a suicide attack last week took the lives of 42 soldiers in India-controlled Kashmir, the deadliest attack orchestrated in 30 years by armed rebellion in the Himalayan region.

India has been seeking action against armed fighters from Pakistan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi under pressure from his Hindu nationalist loyalist to show decisiveness weeks before he is set to call elections.

On the Pakistani side, the military on Friday has warned India against any "misadventure," saying it was capable of reacting.

The two Asian neighbours have fought three of their four wars over Kashmir since their partition following independence in 1947 from Britain.

The administration of Mr. Trump last year cut off $300m in military aid to Pakistan, stating that Islamabad has not done enough to fight armed rebels at home or close safe havens for fighters in Afghanistan.

However, Trump added the United States has developed a "much better" relationship recently with Pakistan and added that the United States may set up some meetings with Pakistan.

United States envoys say Pakistan has an important role to play in Afghan peace talks, due to its relations with the Taliban.
