21 savage released from ICE detention
21 savage has been released from the Custody of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement
Rapper 21 Savage was released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody on Wednesday after spending more than a week in detention, his attorney Charles Kuck stated.
He was arrested on the 3rd of February by ICE, which said he was born in the United Kingdom and was in the United States illegally. His birth certificate states he was born in East London and his parents are British.
The rapper, whose legal name is She'yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was released on bond, his attorney stated. A photo from his attorneys made available to CNN affiliate WSB showed the rapper and his mother boarding a private plane after he was released.
His arrest shocked the Hip-hop world because he is closely associated with Atlanta and its music scene. He has stated numerous times that the "21" in his name is a reference to a street gang in Decatur close to Atlanta, and his songs often refer to his past in East Atlanta's Zone 6.
One thing 21 Savage's detention has done is the heightened awareness of the predicaments of undocumented immigrants, particularly in this Trump’s administration.
A number of celebs voiced messages of support for the rapper while he was in custody. Jesse Williams, Future, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone who sported a 21 Savage shirt at the Grammys, were just some of the A-listers.
