Use of NIN Now Mandatory for all Government Organisations

The Federal Government has directed the implementation of compulsory use of the National Identification Number (NIN) which should take effect as from the 1st day of January 2019, this was announced by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) after a meeting held on September 12, 2018.

At the meeting, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) accepted the newly developed National Digital Identity Ecosystem Strategic Roadmap which was developed to enroll all Nigerians and other legal residents into the National Identity Database (NIDB).
At the point of enrolling for NIN, a set of number is assigned to specific individuals after collecting various data which include; demographic data, fingerprints, passport capture and digital signature. This set of numbers act as the individual’s identity wherever the number is presented.

It has now become mandatory for all federal government agencies, ministries and departments to take into records the identification of individual personnel before being offered/rendering services, this was disclosed by Engr. Aliyu Aziz, Director of NIMC.

All government organizations are required to demand and verify the NIN from working staff as already being used by the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Commission and National Pension Commission.

So you are advised to get your National Identification Number as soon as possible if you are yet to get yours, simply visit any NIMC office around you.
