The Nigerian and former Chelsea Midfielder, John Mikel Obi is on a verge of returning to England after undergoing medicals at Championship side, Middlesbrough

It was reported that the 31-year-old Midfielder travelled from London to North-east on the afternoon of January 22nd, after agreeing on personal terms with the Championship side.

The two-time premier league winner left Chelsea for Tianjin TEDA in January 2017, he spent 2 years in the Chinese Super League where he played 31 games had 3 goals and 3 assist to his name.

The move back to England was fueled by the fact that his (Mikel) wife and two young children are based there, prompting him to reject a move to clubs like Roma and Wolfsburg who also registered their interest in the Nigerian.

Middlesbrough currently sits fifth in the Championship table, seven points behind leaders Leeds, they are hoping to bring in Mikel to help secure the premier league spot on the table.
