Alvaro Morata to Join Athletico Madrid
Chelsea FC has reportedly agreed a loan to buy deal with Athletico Madrid regarding their misfiring striker, Alvaro Morata. It is understood that the deal is a loan until the end of the season, with the La Liga side having the option to buy in the summer for a fee believed to be worth £48.5 million.
Sky Sports reported that Morata's family arrived in Madrid yesterday and he is expected to join up with the Atletico team this week
With the move all but confirmed now, the 26-year-old Spanish striker could make his debut at the Wanda Metropolitano against Getafe on Saturday.
Athletico Madrid who signed Nikola Kalinic after his loan spell with Ac Milan has made the move to sign Morata while Chelsea on their own are reportedly close to agreeing a deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain from AC Milan where he has been on loan from Juventus this season in a move similar to the transfer triangle which occurred last season involving, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi.
Morata has struggled for form this term, with Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri preferring to deploy Eden Hazard in the 'false nine' role ahead of both him and Olivier Giroud since loosing confidence in his strikers.
Having signed for Chelsea from Real Madrid in a deal worth £58m plus add-ons, his Blues career started well, with the Spaniard scoring seven goals in his first eight games for the club, but with recurring injuries, he struggled for form throughout the rest of the season, finishing the campaign with 11 Premier League goals.
Since the start of this season, Morata has scored nine goals in all competitions for Chelsea but has not played since scoring twice in a 2-0 FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest on January 5.
With this move, he will now join former Blues forward Diego Costa in the Spanish capital, whom he was initially signed to replace in west London.
