What has gone wrong with Guardiola’s Manchester City Team?

It hasn’t been business as usual at the Etihad, the stand out team from the 2017/18 premier league campaign and still regarded as the team to beat after 15 rounds of matches in the 2018/19 campaign, Manchester city has faced somewhat of a trying period since the start of the match packed-festive period.

The run of fixtures started with victories against Bournemouth and Watford, but a setback in the 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford bridge, which ended their unbeaten start to this season’s campaign has commenced a certain turn in events which am sure was not written in their scripts for this campaign. Although victories against Hoffenheim in the champions league, a premier league victory against Everton and an EFL cup penalty shootout victory against Leicester city has been recorded since the defeat at Stamford bridge, two consecutive losses in the premier league against Crystal Palace at home and at the king power against Leicester city has been a subject of distraction from Christmas mood at the Etihad.

Many would say the records broken by Manchester city last season cannot be repeated or at least improved upon, but no one expects the star-studded team to lose 3 matches in 4 premier league fixtures out of which three of the teams are not even in the premier league top six. December has been hard on Guardiola and his boys, although we can attribute the setback against Chelsea to injuries to key players of his team, but with Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero back and featured in the loss against Crystal Palace and even the return of David Silva against Leicetser couldn’t prevent back to back defeats for the cityzens, little can we wonder if time is up for the reigning champions as they find themselves in third position on the log, a point behind second placed Tottenham and seven massive points behind run away unbeaten league leaders, Liverpool. The cityzens will hope the month runs out fast as they face their last fixture for the month and year away at Southampton. Will the turn of the year bring a change in fortune for the cityzens, or are they truly exhausted from their long unbeaten streaks, we will get to know soon. One thing that is certain is time is running out fast, if they want to retain the title, they need to start grinding out results and earn maximum points as jurgen klopp’s Liverpool team are extending their lead at the top of the log.
