2018/19 Champions League Group Stage Permutations Series 2 - Who will Progress?
In the previous series, we’ve considered the possible
permutations from Groups A to D. in this article we will show the permutations
for the remaining four groups. If you missed the first series, Check out the Possible Permutations for Groups A to D here.
So read up and find out what’s up for grabs for
the remaining teams in this second series.
Group E: The teams going to the next stage of the champions
league and the one dropping to the Europa league has been sealed since matchday
5, although the order of the group progression for the first two teams is not yet
known.
A win or draw for Bayern will see them go through as group leaders and Ajax
need to win to stand a chance of toppling Bayern as group leaders. Certainly, Benfica
are finishing third and Athens are totally going out of Europe for this season.
Group F: Only Manchester City is certain to progress to the
knockout rounds but they need a draw in their last match or simply hope results
go against Lyon for them to clinch first place.
Likewise Lyon will be through
with a draw, and will finish top on head-to-head record if they win and City
lose. Shakhtar will progress if they win and lyon loses. However, they will
transfer to the UEFA Europa League round of 32 if they draw or if Hoffenheim do
not gain victory. For Hoffenheim, they must win and hope Shakhtar lose in order
to earn a place in the UEFA Europa League.
Group G: Champions league places are sealed for this group.
Madrid
are through as group winners while Roma are through as runners-up. Presently, Plzen
are third and with their superior head-to-head record against CSKA, if they
match the Russian side’s result in the final match day, they will clinch a UEFA
Europa League round of 32 spot. The only hope for CSKA to finish third and
progress to Europa league is to pick up more points than Plzen.
Group H: The bottom two spots are already filled and they
will remain in that order regardless of what happens on the final matchday but
for the top two sides, Juventus will finish top if they win or United do not
gain victory.
While United will finish top only if Juventus do not win their
last match. Valencia will certainly drop to the UEFA Europa League round of 32
and Young Boys are already confirmed fourth.
These are the possible permutations and change in position
and places that can still occur as we await this season’s final matchday in the
champions league. Fingers crossed and we hope for an amazing end to the group
stages of this years’ champions league group stage.
